At the last Open Meeting Val, our Chair, announced that we had received a donation in memory of Alan Day, who was a long time member of u3a.
The committee agreed that a good use of the money would be to buy some trees to be planted in the u3a 40th Anniversary Woodland to help support the environment, wildlife and climate. More than 8,000 trees have already been planted. See here for details of the launch: https://www.u3a.org.uk/latest-news/help-us-reach-10-000-trees-for-the-40th-anniversary-woodland.
We are opening up the opportunity for individual members to buy one or more trees to add to the woodland. Each tree will cost £7.35, which is a discount from the normal price of £9.
Please note the u3a Anniversary Woodland is located on the England/Wales border in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The trees – two-year old saplings - will be native, deciduous trees; a mix of native species will be appropriate to the chosen site. Your purchase includes planting the tree(s), plus 12 years of maintenance to ensure the tree(s) become established.
If you would like to purchase some trees, please follow this link: https://square.link/u/jqEBn54y. Alternatively, go to our online shop (Select Shop under For Members in the menu).
Please make your purchase by Friday 14th June as that is when the order for the trees will be placed.
