Bishop's Cleeve u3a

Bishop’s Cleeve u3a was founded in 2007 and now has over 400 members from Bishop's Cleeve, Woodmancote and the surrounding area.

We are a friendly organisation offering more than 50 member-led interest groups, which all meet regularly. These groups allow people to share their hobbies and interests, study new topics and enjoy the companionship of others. It's a great place to meet people and make new friends.

Costs are minimal because our activities are organised by members, who share their skills and expertise. Our u3a does not provide services for its members – members provide them for each other.

Nothing can be achieved without enthusiastic members willing to give their time, energy and commitment. Is there any way that you could contribute? It may be sharing of skills and knowledge by leading or supporting groups; preparing refreshments or putting out chairs; planning trips, outings and social events; volunteering for the committee; organising speakers for the monthly meetings – the list is endless.

We hold a monthly meeting for all members at which there is usually a talk of general interest.

The u3a movement

The national u3a organisation was set up 40 years ago for those who, whilst no longer in full time employment, still enjoy:

  • learning: for its practical utility, for its own sake and for fun.
  • sharing their own skills and knowledge with others.

The Third Age Trust (TAT) is the national office which supports over 1,000 local u3a’s spread across the UK who, between them, have more than 430,000 members. All the local u3as are affiliated to TAT, which provides central resources and support.

Bishop's Cleeve u3a is part of the Cotswold Link u3a, a network of u3a’s within Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
